Throughout the Central Alabama Area and its communities, a number of Veterans have stepped up to the contemporary challenges faced by the Veteran community. These non-traditional Veteran Service providers each operate within a unique scope and offer a plethora of resources otherwise not available to our community’s Veterans.
Our Veteran Service shout out for the month of April goes to an exceptional network partner, prior service Marine, and founder of Lone Warrior’s, Eric Fort.
A component of Lone Warrior is Operation TheraPic. The mission of Operation TheraPic is to utilize photography as a healthy, positive outlet and form of therapy for US Armed Forces Veterans who were injured during combat or combat training exercises. Through photography,
Operation TheraPic provides a unique form of healing to our US Armed Forces Veterans suffering from not only internal scars such as PTSD, moral injury, or transition anxiety, but also the physical scars left behind from their experiences while serving our country. Those who participate in Eric’s program are encouraged to take on daily photo challenges as well as share the experiences they encounter and capture throughout their day to day journey -so that we can appreciate the world through the eyes of a warrior.
The experiences they capture on film each tell a remarkable story in their own way. Above: A variety of submissions to Operation TheraPic’s photo of the day Monthly Challenge.
Since starting this program in April of 2016, Lone Warriors has been able to provide 20 qualifying Veterans across 5 states with camera kits that give them the opportunity to utilize photography as a healing mechanism. The team has an additional 13 members located across an additional 4 states, all of which are on a waiting list as Eric works to secure further funding to outfit them. In the interim they often share photographs with us that have been taken with their cell phones.
Eric is a very humble man who credits his work to the community and for the better good and well being of our nation’s Veterans. His has without question had an amazing impact on so many and has been praised by the families and friends of the Veterans who he has helped. Below addition photo submissions and quotes by a wife and a Veteran enrolled in his program.
“Thanks to Lone Warriors for providing an amazing opportunity for my husband to enjoy the outdoors again.” – Wife of a Retired U.S. Army Veteran
“I'm so lucky that others saw things in me that I did not see, or perhaps tried to cover up and act like I couldn't see. Big thanks to my wife for always standing by me and challenging me to be better every day. Huge thanks to Eric Fort and Operation TheraPic for blessing me last year with an amazing camera and fueling my passion for photography. Appreciate them for creating a community for those veterans who suffer, but don't use excuses and flourish when challenged.” – U.S. Army Veteran
Alabama Veteran is a strong supporter of Eric’s and looks forward to seeing his team to continue to grow as they work towards the Operation TheraPic Objective.
